But these are just ‘dry’ features. What do they really mean? What benefits does the Hubsan X4 actually offer you as a beginner?
Well, here’s the stuff that really matters to you as a newbie drone pilot:
- The Hubsan X4 is easy to set-up and start flying straight out of the box.
- No technical knowledge is required.
- No previous flying experience is needed whatsoever.
- It fits in the palm of your hand, so easy and safe to fly indoors and out.
- Use ‘normal’ flight mode to gain experience indoors first, then outdoors.
- Use ‘expert’ mode when you’re confident enough to put it through its paces outdoors.
- You can do high speed bank turns, flips, and barrel rolls in expert mode!
- Because of its size, weight and high speed you can fly it in winds that other multi-rotors can’t handle.
- It comes with a free propeller guard to prevent damage to your aircraft – because we all crash when learning to fly!
- It has a pretty short charging time so not long to wait between flights.
- Up to 8 or 9 minute flight time is pretty good for a small quadcopter drone.
- Comes with free USB charger, extra prop blades, mini wrench, and instruction manual.
All in all, it’s a really stunning first quadcopter drone for beginners at a truly budget price.

#2 Best Beginner Drone - Syma X5
Not quite as good in the wind as the Hubsan X4. But a really nice quadcopter for the money, very responsive but stable, and easy to fly straight out of the box. Indoors and outdoors, which is why it's our #2 ahead of the Blade Nano QX and the Air Hogs X4. An excellent beginner's quad. Note: The Syma X5C (camera variant) is our best of camera-equipped quads.

#3 Best Beginner Drone - BLADE Nano QX
The most expensive of our four. But has S.A.F.E. (TM) technology with sophisticated flight control software so newbies are always safely in control. For indoors use really, although can be flown outdoors in very little to no wind.

#4 Best Beginner Drone - Air Hogs X4
A bit more expensive than the Hubsan and Syma. But has 4 fully ducted fans for stable flight and high crash resistance. Indoors only though, which is why we put it at #4.
